A United States patent grants to its owner the right, for a limited time, to exclude others from making, using, offering for sale or selling within the United States, or importing into the United States, the patented invention. Whoever invents or discovers any new and useful process, machine, manufacture, or composition of matter, or any new and useful improvement thereof, may obtain a patent, subject to the U.S. Patent Laws.
